May Stats

With two months remaining in the 2024/25 season, May saw a number of milestones chalked up across the six meetings that were held at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.

Perhaps most significant from a trainers’ perspective was when Strawberry Thief won over 1800m under champion jockey Richard Fourie. Significantly, it was the 25th winner in the Western Cape for the Brett and James Crawford combination, one more than the 24 winners Brett had before the official amalgamation of father and son.

There were a number of first winners for the season in the owners’ ranks, including the Ready Steady Go Syndicate of trainer Michelle Rix. Similarly, this extended to breeders – Piemonte Stud (Beneath The Moon) celebrated a first winner for 2024/25.

Then there were firsts in the sires ranks as both Erik The Red (through Vapour Trail) and Hawwaam, (Take It As Red) saw their first babies win races in the region. Another milestone came in the jockeys’ ranks when Aldo Domeyer booted home his 50th winner of the season, aboard Babelicious on the 21st.

The diversity among the winners was further highlighted in that more jockeys, owners, breeders and sires won races in May than they did in April.
