Following February’s seasonal peak where there were seven race meetings held at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, resulting in 62 races, there were five meetings held in March, with 39 races staged. This included four meetings at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
A highlight of the month was the Cape Racing Sales March Yearling Sales, which was a resounding success.
The top price reached was the R9-million paid by Greg Bortz for the Drakenstein-bred Wreath Of Snow, a Vercingetorix colt, equalling the South African record for a yearling purchase.
On the track, well over 100 different owners experienced the winning feeling, if you included syndicates where trainers Candice Bass-Robinson, Piet Botha, Dean Kannemeyer and Vaughan Marshall’s had winners, along with The Social Squad Syndicate and Yuppie Syndicate, all of which have introduced new faces into the ownership ranks.
