January was the peak of the Cape Racing season and with it came a slew of Grade 1 races, including the L’Ormarins King’s Plate and the World Sports Betting Cape Town Met. In total there were 49 races held over five race meetings at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. Winners came from 22 different sires representing 28 stud farms.
Well over 100 different owners experienced the winning feeling, if you included the winning syndicates where trainers Candice Bass Robinson, Piet Botha and Dean Kannemeyer’s racing syndicates had success, along with The Social Squad Syndicate and Yuppie Syndicate, both of which have introduced new faces into the ownership ranks.
The three constants through December and January were the most successful trainer (Justin Snaith), breeders Drakenstein Stud and the sire Vercingetorix, who topped the charts of their respective categories for both months. The competitive nature of racing is shown in the fact that there were 19 different jockeys to win across the 49 races.
